South Gate Middle School Folklorico

Director Anna Hall leads this 200 strong troupe of 11 to 13 year old dancers from South Gate, the largest middle school in the United States. A native Californian, Ms. Hall was born in Compton and lived in Texas during her early childhood.

She has been teaching dance at South Gate middle school for over 15 years and had previously taught in the Paramount and Lynwood Parks and Recreations departments.

The popular South Gate Middle School Folklorico has performed at various venues throughout Southern California including City and local fiestas. Ms. Hall inspires her students to respect and understand the Mexican culture as well as other cultures in order to broaden their world view. "Mexican dance is rich and diverse because it incorporates many influences and cultures, each with their own costumes and music; from Native American to African and European, the styles of Mexican dance are a perfect way to teach children about diversity," believes Ms. Hall.
